Winter Morning

It's never been a secret how much I would rather be enjoying the warm days of summer.  But, even I'm not immune to beauty of a winter morning.

Stepping into the kitchen for that second cup of coffee, glancing out the window and seeing the skeleton crab apple tree covered in ice crystals.  The rising sun making it sparkle like it was clothed in a million tiny diamonds.  Still in pj's and bathrobe, I slipped on boots and stepped outside to stand beneath the tree and watch the sun rise.

"There is a privacy about it which  no other season gives you.  In spring, summer and fall people sorf of have an open season on each other.  Only in the winter, in the country, can you have longer, quiet stretches when you can savor belonging to yourself."
~ Ruth Stout

  1. it's a beautiful thing to see, and then appreciate, beauty even in what we don't or struggle to connect with.

  4. That is so true - I hadn't realised that before, but it's true that there is a feelimg of privacy about winter. I think it also goes beyond the fact that there are fewer people around - sometimes it feels, when alone among wild nature, that one is venturing into the privacy of the trees and birds in a way that one cannot do at other times. It is as if in this quiet season of so much solitude, there are times when we are welcomed as two strangers may greet one another along a lonely road.

  6. I love reading what you've written. It made me imagine how it is if it was me standing beneath that tree watching the sunrise on a winter morning. Also, it made me wish I'd experience winter. :)
