Start Simple

It's hard to remind myself sometimes, when thoughts, ideas, images are flooding in.  Journal pages get filled.  Scrap papers with quick sketches are littered through the house as another idea comes rushing in and I don't want to forget.  But when starting something new, a technique I've never done, I have to remind myself - start simple.  New art materials are usually rare for me.  So when I get them, I want to go big.  Then I get so nervous about ruining the materials that I just stare at them.  So, start simple.

A simple leaf.

Perhaps a bit too simple.  The carving went too fast and I enjoyed it too much.

  3. I don't think it's too simple at all A - I think it is beautiful. I know exactly what you mean about art materials - my mum gave me a sketch book and I couldn't bear to use the first page in case I spoiled it. Keep going - be brave :-)

carving is so much fun isn't it!? and i always find it amazing how stamping (and mono-printing and collagraphs...) makes even the simplest design special.

  12. Start simple. A good mantra to live by! I know I try to dive head first into something, but your right easing into it and starting small is the best method.

I love the leaf stamp. What's next?
