Hare, Hare

A week of extreme freezing temperatures has me longing for Spring more than usual.  The rabbits have arrived here.  An old linen shirt was turned into a wall hanging for the girls' room.  Here it's the hare, not the cow, that jumps over the moon.  The kids wanted a rabbit stamp.  I'll let them use it to make some paper tags.

Finally, a break today.  The skies are gray, trees are wrapped in a thin layer of fog.  But the temperatures are mild.  And I'm happy to look out the window and see water raining from the roof as the snow and ice from yesterday melt away.

  1. Love this! Is it needlepoint or cross-stitch? I should totally know this from my grandma, mom and aunts, all wonderful needle artists. It's been something I'd like to try but every time I've gone to the art store and stood in the needle-work aisle, I've walked away scratching my head - no possible idea where to begin. ;)

    1. I used a backstitch, a very basic embroidery stitch. there is a lot of info out there, don't let it overwhelm you. I don't think I've ever followed a pattern or directions. Just doodle on fabric and stitch away! have fun with it. :)

  6. Oh yes, rabbits and the moon are very much linked. I always see the hare in the moon, not a man, from the Buddhist story of self-sacrifice. I love, love your stamp! I am sending some sun up your way...we had winter, but now it is like spring for a few days. All the poor flowers are confused :(. Sunshine and warm weather will be with you soon! xo

  9. So beautiful, Amanda. I love the association with rabbits and hares with the moon.
We've been enjopying a couple of really mild spring days following a most wonderful fall of snow. It is probably far too early, but these days seems special... like a promise that spring will come... and are to be savoured like a mug of hot tea after a brisk afternoon's walk.
