The Apron

Blue - my grandmother's favorite color.
Everything in her house is blue:
carpet, upholstery, walls, tile, dishes....even her car.
Her favoritism rubbed off on me - just a bit.
I have a fondness for blue and white gingham, ticking, plaid.
If you look in my closet, you'll see that most of my shirts are a shade of blue.

So, when my grandmother made me an apron that had the sweetest
blue print of tiny vines and berries, it's no surprise it became my favorite.
I wear it while cleaning, cooking, gardening.  Use it to dry my hands.
And it makes an excellent "basket" for gathering the chicken eggs.

  1. My grandma's favorite color was purple and she did the same thing, everything purple. She would have loved that print, bought it in purple and made my daughter a doll dress. *Sigh* thanks. I needed to think of my grandma today.

  2. my grandma's favourite colour must have been orange. I had never thought about this before. she wouldn't wear it, old women would wear only black and grey and brown, but half her house was orange :)

  3. Lovely! My grandma's favorite colors are peach and cream. Her house is encased in peach carpet, even though there is a beautiful hardwood floor underneath. I guess when I was younger I liked peach. She gave me a peach stuffed bunny that I loved dearly. Ah, grandma!

  4. Beautiful...reminds me of one of my heroes, Tasha Tudor, who once said she can't imagine how women get by without aprons, they are so useful for carrying things :)

  5. Such a lovely post. And it makes me wonder what my grandmother's favourite colour is? I am thinking green...the green carpet, the green accenting the kitchen, the green everywhere. Green must be it :)

    Such a lovely apron too!

  6. i bought my own apron. how wonderful to have had a grandma make one! aprons are so versatile, such a sense of home and nurturing. so it is fitting to have grandma's 'imprint' in it.
